Crossing the Atlantic
November 28, 2007
A good friend of mine (Andy Hunt) has recently begun the massive task of crossing the Atlantic! He’s making the journey on his aunt and uncle’s 46 foot Sun Odyssey yacht (named Trucial Coast), which looks something like this (and this).
They set off from the Canaries last Sunday (25th November) and are competing in the 22nd Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) in which over 230 yachts will attempt to make the 2,700 nautical miles across the Atlantic to St. Lucia. They’re expecting a journey time of between 16 and 24 days, all being well.
To read their blog posts as the crossing continues, go to the ARC website and search for entries from the Trucial Coast. There is also a Fleet Viewer on the website so you can track where all of the yachts are (positions are updated each hour) or you can download the latest KMV file to see the positions in Google Earth.
