Wanaka
October 10, 2007
A pretty quiet day today really. After breakfast, we hit the road on a 250km drive down the West Coast to Wanaka. This was the part of the drive that must have featured in the Top 10 in the world as it was truly stunning … and great fun to drive, with lots of twists and turns. So much fun without any traffic on the roads. We made a few stops on the way (Knight’s Point being one of particular note) to take photos.
Wanaka itself is a great little town – really pretty and, at the moment, really quiet, but becoming busy during the tourist times of either the main summer or winter seasons (there are still a few crusty, dreadlocked snowboarders lingering around). I totally understand why it’s Nick’s favourite little corner of the world. The photos probably don’t do it justice.
We’re staying in a nice little place with great hosts (Murray and Lyn) and I’ve just got from a great feed in Speight’s Ale House (I had the Venison Game Pie and Mash, washed down with a cheeky little Pinot Noir from the North Island). Time to upload a few photos, then hit the hay. Tomorrow we’re off to the fiordlands to go on an overnight cruise. No internet for a couple of days, but should be able to add the photos on Friday when we hit Queenstown … the day before flying back to the UK!
